HEALTH academics from Japan have paid a two-day visit to Newcastle to explore the Media Doctor website created by Hunter researchers with a view to developing their own adapted version.

The website's aim is to expose pseudoscience and to inspect various medical issues in the media.

University of Newcastle clinical pharmacology chief Professor David Henry created the site with Newcastle Institute of Public Health research officer Amanda Wilson.

Professor Henry said a health information group in Kyoto is interested in starting up a similar site.

The other area of interest was in the adaptation of already-established internal auditing processes used by major newspapers in Japan to include some of the criteria used on Media Doctor.
