TWO University of Wollongong academics were recognised at the inaugural NSW Scientist of the Year Awards held in Sydney earlier this week.

Professor Gordon Wallace won the chemistry award and Professor Matt Wand took out the mathematical sciences prize.

The awards are recognition of outstanding individuals carrying out cutting-edge work that generates economic, health, environmental or technological benefits to NSW.

Solar cell expert Professor Martin Green from the University of New South Wales was named the overall NSW Scientist of the Year.
